A diagnostic-led approach to test preparation and personalized academic support.

A clear plan.
Practice with a purpose.

Keep the work focused, from the first SHSAT diagnostic to the next practice test.

  1. Find the starting point

Review a diagnostic, recent schoolwork, and your child’s goals. Identify the Math, ELA, and timing skills that need attention first.

  2. Build the right plan

Choose an appropriate course or tutoring format. Combine instructor-led lessons with manageable homework and a realistic weekly routine.

  3. Practice, review, adjust

Use timed practice and topic-level results to guide the next lesson. Track progress, revisit difficult questions, and keep parents informed.

ELA: understand the evidence.

Reading comprehension, revising and editing, grammar, and careful answer selection.

Math: make the reasoning clear.

Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data analysis, and multi-step word problems.

Prepare for the SHSAT students will actually take.

NYCPS admissions guidance ↗
When should my child start SHSAT prep?

Many students begin in seventh grade to leave time for foundational skills, guided practice, and review. Eighth graders can also prepare. The right timeline depends on the student’s current level, school workload, and test date. Start with an advising call and a diagnostic plan.

What is on the SHSAT in fall 2026?

For fall 2026 testing and September 2027 admission, NYC Public Schools lists 50 English Language Arts questions and 50 Math questions in a computer-adaptive format. Standard testing time is 180 minutes. Use the official NYCPS guide for current test-day rules and accommodations.

Who can take the SHSAT?

NYC residents in eighth grade or first-time ninth grade may take the SHSAT for the eight testing specialized high schools. Students at public, private, and parochial schools are eligible. Registration and school choices are handled through the NYC Public Schools admissions process.

How are specialized high school offers determined?

Offers depend on SHSAT scores, the student’s ranked school preferences, and available seats. There is no single score that guarantees a place at every school. LaGuardia has a separate audition-based admissions process, not SHSAT admission.

Should we choose Foundation, Advanced, or private SHSAT tutoring?

Foundation develops core Math and ELA skills and consistent study habits. Advanced and Super Advanced courses emphasize more demanding questions, timing, and error analysis. Private tutoring offers an individual pace and targeted support. A diagnostic helps the team recommend an appropriate starting point.

How much do SHSAT prep classes cost?

The currently listed tuition is $1,198 for the Foundation course and $1,198 for the Advanced or Super Advanced course. Private SHSAT tutoring has custom pricing. Confirm the current cohort, schedule, availability, and enrollment terms with our team before registering.

Are in-person and online SHSAT tutoring available?

Infinite Academics offers SHSAT support in Brooklyn and live online. Private tutoring can be arranged in either format. Ask which current course cohorts fit your preferred format and schedule. Our Brooklyn center is at 3121 Ocean Ave, Suite B-01, in Sheepshead Bay.

How will I know whether my child is making progress?

The program uses homework, topic-level work, timed practice, and practice test results to identify strengths and gaps. Recorded lessons and the online learning platform support review between classes. Parents can discuss progress and next steps with the team.
