SHSAT Prep
The Problem
Diagnostic score of 338 — felt like Brooklyn Tech was out of reach.

"My daughter started at 338 and finished at 495. I honestly didn't think that kind of growth was possible in one year. The instructors were patient, structured, and genuinely invested in her success."

The Problem
Anxious test-taker aiming for one of NYC's most competitive specialized schools.

"My son was overwhelmed by the SHSAT and his diagnostic scores weren't where they needed to be. Six months of structured prep later, he passed and got into Stuyvesant. Patient, thorough tutors every step of the way."

The Problem
Started at 172 — every other prep center said it was "too low" to bother.

"Jonathan's team transformed how my daughter approaches test-taking. IA built her up from the ground floor. She scored 490 and was admitted. I tell every parent in our building about this program."

About the Exam

What Is the SHSAT — and Why Does It Matter?

The Specialized High Schools Admissions Test determines admission to 8 of NYC's most prestigious public high schools — including Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech, and Bronx Science. Your child's score is the only factor that decides their offer.

Two Sections

ELA (57 questions): revising & editing + reading comprehension. Math (57 questions): multiple choice + grid-in problems.

Timed Exam

Students have 3 hours to complete the full test. Time management is one of the biggest factors — we train for it from day one.

Who Takes It

8th graders across all NYC districts. Some 9th graders may also apply. Registration opens in the fall — timing is critical.

Score-Based Admission

Each school has a cutoff score. Spots go to the highest scorers — grades and extracurriculars don't factor in.

Now Digital

The SHSAT is fully digital. In 2026, it becomes computer-adaptive — questions adjust based on student performance. We prepare for both formats.

Up to 8 School Choices

Students rank up to 8 specialized schools. Knowing which schools to target and how to rank them is part of the strategy we build together.

  • Energy Students Actually FeelThe best instructors aren't the most credentialed — they're the ones students want to show up for.
"Every student has the potential to get into a great school. My job is to make sure nothing stands in their way — not a test score, not an essay, not a lack of guidance. We give every student a real shot." — Jonathan Milman, Founder of Infinite Academics

FAQ

Questions Parents Ask Most

Everything you need to know before getting started — answered clearly and honestly.

When should my child start SHSAT prep?
We recommend starting in 7th grade — ideally in the spring or fall — to allow enough time for both foundation and advanced prep. That said, we also work with 8th graders who are starting later. Book a free advising session and we'll build a realistic timeline based on your child's current level and target schools.
What does the SHSAT exam look like?
The SHSAT consists of two sections: ELA (57 questions) and Math (57 questions). Students have 3 hours total. The ELA section tests reading comprehension and revising/editing skills. The Math section includes both multiple choice and grid-in questions. In 2026, the test becomes computer-adaptive — we prepare students for both formats.
How is admission to specialized high schools decided?
Admission is based entirely on SHSAT score. Grades, teacher recommendations, and extracurriculars are not considered. Each school has a minimum cutoff score, and students are ranked by score against all other applicants who listed that school as a choice.
Do you offer online classes?
Yes. We offer both in-person classes at our Brooklyn location and fully online sessions. Every class is recorded, so students who miss a session can catch up immediately. The quality of instruction is identical across both formats.
What's the difference between the Foundation and Advanced courses?
The Foundation Course builds core math and ELA skills for students new to the SHSAT. The Advanced Course is for students who already have a solid base and want to reach top scores — it focuses on harder question types, exam strategy, and performance under timed conditions. After the diagnostic, we'll recommend the right fit.
Do you guarantee results?
Yes. Our guarantee is +80 points per 10-week course on the SHSAT or your money back. The only thing your child has to do is come to every class, do the homework, and take the practice exams. We stand behind our results because our track record supports it: 88% of our students earn admission to a specialized high school.
How do you track my child's progress?
We track session attendance, homework completion, practice test scores, and improvement by topic. Parents receive regular written updates and have direct access to their child's instructor. If something isn't working, we adjust the plan immediately — not at the end of the program.
